DePaul closes out 2010 with post player
With one remaining scholarship currently left for the 2010 class, DePaul fans were curious to see who landed the final scholarship. That question was answered last night, as six-foot-nine Walter Pitchford gave his verbal to DePaul. Pitchford will be attending New Creations Prep in Richmond, Indiana. Previously, Pitchford played at Oak Hill his sophomore year, and attended Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central, but was unable to play due to transfer issues. This summer, Pitchford split his time between Team Detroit and the Michigan Mustangs on the AAU circuit.
Much of the credit for this verbal needs to go to assistant coach Billy Garrett, who has a long standing relationship with the Pitchford family, as he coached a family member of Walter's years prior. Additionally, Pitchford is originally from the Chicago area, so this is a bit of a return home for him.
The scouting report on Pitchford is that he has very good athleticism and a substantial wingspan. He uses his wingspan well, as he gets on the glass for rebounds and will alter shots. His offensive game is behind his defensive abilities, but he will get his share of points on put backs.
