DePaul vs. West Virginia Preview

The DePaul Blue Demons continue to search for their first conference victory of the 2008-2009 season.  The task does not get easier as they take a visit to Morgantown Wednesday to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers.  DePaul, 8-21 overall with a 0-16 Big East record, are coming off an embarrassing 21 point loss to St. Johns on senior day.  DePaul allowed the Red Storm to shoot 60% from the field.  Dar Tucker led the team with 24 points.  The Mountaineers, winners of 4 of their last 5 games, just finished a 2-1 road trip with a 64-50 victory over South Florida on Sunday.  They are a good bet for an NCAA berth, but a two more regular season wins and a couple of conference tournament victories could significantly help their seeding.  The Mountaineers hold a 2-1 edge in the all-time series.  Their last meeting was last season at the Allstate Arena, where the Mountaineers won 85-73.

DePaul vs. Villanova Preview

The DePaul Blue Demons (8-19, 0-14 in conference) continue to lose in blowout fashion to Big East opponents.  They have now lost seven games in a row by 15 or more points, including a 19-point loss to Pittsburgh Saturday evening.  The task does not get much easier as #10 Villanova invades the Allstate Arena on Wednesday night.  The Wildcats (22-5, 10-4 in conference) come into the game on a roll, winning 8 of their last 9 games.  They are coming off arguably their most impressive road win of the season, an 89-86 win against Syracuse.  Senior guard Dwayne Anderson led a balanced scoring attack with a team-high 22 points.  These two teams split a home and home series last season, with both teams winning on their home floor.  The Wildcats lead the all-time series 11-8.

DePaul vs. Louisville Preview

After playing four of their past five games at home, DePaul travels to Freedom Hall on Sunday to take on the Louisville Cardinals.  DePaul (8-17 overall, 0-12 in conference) continues to struggle in Big East play, and the way they have been losing of late has made it even harder to watch.  They have lost their last five games by 15 or more points, including two consecutive 23 point losses to Pittsburgh and Seton Hall at home in the last week.  The AP #7 rated Cardinals (18-5 overall, 9-2 in conference) are coming off their worst defeat of the season, a 33 point loss at Notre Dame on Thursday night.  After winning their first eight conference games, the Cardinals have lost two of their last three games.  This is the 54th matchup between the teams, and Louisville holds a 32-21 series advantage.  These teams played last year at the Allstate Arena, where the Cardinals won convincingly 88-68.

DePaul vs. Pitt Preview

It has been a season filled with records being tied or broken for the Blue Demons; biggest margin of defeat in a Big East game, longest losing streak, and worst start to a conference season. Their next test is against the Pittsburgh Panthers, the fourth ranked team in the nation. DePaul will be seeking it’s first victory in calendar year 2009 and a loss would break the tie for the longest losing streak, which would be extended to fourteen games. Pitt comes into this home court matchup for them with an overall record of 23-2 and a conference record of 11-2. This will be the second match-up of the two squads this season, as Pitt rallied from being behind early against the Blue Demons and took it to them with a 92-69 effort on February 7th. DeJuan Blair was a man among boys, scoring 32 points and getting 14 rebounds, including nine of the offensive end.

DePaul vs. Seton Hall Preview

DePaul’s chances to gain a victory in Big East Conference play grows smaller and smaller each game, and perhaps one of the Blue Demons best remaining chances will be this Tuesday at Allstate Arena when they welcome the Seton Hall Pirates. Seton Hall is coming into the game with a four game winning streak, but three of those four wins have come against two of the three worst teams record wise in the Big East. On the season, Seton Hall is 13-9 and 4-6 in conference play.
